Silja Kempinger gründete gemeinsam mit Romana Dorfer das in Graz angesiedelte Start-Up „Factinsect“. Es wurde eine Software entwickelt, die automatisiert die Glaubwürdigkeit von Textbeiträgen überprüft.
Auf der Suche nach dem Echtheits- oder dem Wahrheitsgehalt von Informationen stellt sich für viele die Frage: Was versteht man unter Fake News und woran erkennt man Fake News ?
Eine klare Definition für „Fake News“ gibt es nicht. Zudem sind Falschmeldungen oft unbeabsichtigt: Wir Menschlein neigen einfach dazu, Fehler zu machen. Oder jemand glaubt fest an das, was sie oder er sagt, weil sie es einfach glauben wollen, auch wenn es objektiv gesehen Unsinn ist. Viele Falschmeldungen werden erstellt oder geteilt, weil sie „gefühlte“ Wahrheiten bestätigen.
Und dann gibt es natürlich „Fake News“, die ganz gezielt, mit der Absicht zu täuschen und zu manipulieren, ausgesendet werden.
Für einen ersten „Hausverstand“-Scan auf Fake News gibt es einfache Fragen, die wir uns stellen können: WER schreibt, und was könnte die Person oder Institution beabsichtigen? Ist es ein Qualitätsmedium, das sich an den journalistischen Ehrencodex hält, ein Unternehmen, eine Vereinigung oder eine Privatperson? Ist die Person oder das Medium aufrichtig bezüglich seiner Identität, hat es ein vollständiges Impressum oder verbirgt sie sich hinter einem Pseudonym ? Ist der Schreibstil sachlich-informativ oder eher emotional ? Werden Feindbilder aufgebaut oder wird verallgemeinert ? Werden Verschwörungs-Codes verwendet wie „die Eliten“,„Systempresse“ oder „Big Pharma“ ? Mit diesen Fragen kann man Informationen schon recht gut und schnell einordnen und bei Bedarf weitere Recherchen anstellen.
Welche Rolle spielt künstliche Intelligenz bei Fake News ?
Die Frage ist vielleicht eher: Wo spielt künstliche Intelligenz keine Rolle ? Die rasanten technologischen Fortschritte im Bereich der KI machen sie zu einem Bestandteil von vielen Medien-Inhalten, von fast jeder Software. Sie fließt ein in sämtliche Lebensbereiche. Nachdem künstliche Intelligenz per Definition selbstlernend ist, ist es jetzt besonders wichtig, dass sie ordentlich und klar reguliert wird. Und auch: Software und KI dürfen nicht weiter primär von jungen und mittelalten weißen Männern gestaltet werden – dieser „Bias“ hat Auswirkungen auf unsere gesamte Zukunft. Die Branche braucht mehr Diversität.
Was soll mit der Verbreitung von falschen Informationen erreicht werden und gibt es ein spezielles Muster wie sich Fake News verbreiten und wie sie funktionieren ?
Falschinformationen haben unterschiedliche Intentionen: Sie reichen von Langeweile und dem Bedürfnis nach Aufmerksamkeit, finanziellen Interessen bis hin zu ganz klarem Machtstreben. Bei professioneller Manipulation wird oft auf die „Salamitaktik“ gesetzt. Dabei werden die Falschmeldungen geschickt mit wahren Aussagen oder Halbwahrheiten vermischt und in kleinen Dosen serviert. Die meisten von uns schütteln bei der Behauptung „Mit Impfungen will uns Bill Gates Microchips einpflanzen“ völlig zurecht nur den Kopf. Auch die Menschen, die heute so etwas glauben, hätten die Behauptung nicht von Anfang an geglaubt. Aber sie wurden so lange manipuliert und mit wohldosierten Falschmeldungen gefüttert, bis selbst so eine absurde Aussage für sie Sinn macht.
Sind Fake News tatsächlich eine Erscheinung unserer Zeit, also unmittelbar verbunden mit dem Internet und den sozialen Netzwerken ?
Falschmeldungen hat es immer schon gegeben. Mit dem Aufstieg der sozialen Medien verbreiten sie sich jedoch deutlich schneller als früher. Zudem sind die technologischen Möglichkeiten sehr fortschrittlich und für viele Menschen kaum mehr zu durchschauen. Jeder Technologie-Schub hat vorübergehend zu vermehrten Falschmeldungen geführt, weil die Menschen verunsichert waren von der großen Menge an Informationen. Das war schon so bei der Erfindung der Druckpresse oder beim Aufstieg des Radios.
Die Welt besteht doch aus Widersprüchen, Gegensätzen und neuen Erkenntnissen. Besteht somit durch die „einfache“ Punzierung von Informationen als „Fakt“ oder „Fake“ nicht die Gefahr, dass wir unsere Welt zu einfach, zu vorschnell in „Gut und Böse“ oder in „Richtig und Falsch“ einteilen ?
Exakt. Darum verwende ich statt „Wahrheit“ gerne den Begriff „vorläufig gesichertes Wissen“ oder ich sage „nach meinem Wissensstand“. Statt dem Begriff „Fake“ verwende ich meist „Behauptung“, „das halte ich für sehr unwahrscheinlich“ oder „widerlegte oder unbestätigte Aussage“.
Braucht es - bzw. gibt es eine philosophische Auseinandersetzung mit der Wahrheit ? Wo können sich unsere Leser:innen weiter informieren ?
Die Philosophie ist die Liebe zur Weisheit – wir alle sollten danach streben, weiser zu werden. Der Humanismus als philosophische Strömung setzt darauf, dass der Mensch durch Wissen zu einer besseren Existenzform findet. Ein motivierender Gedanke!
